King of Prussia, Then and Now

I set out to see what I could do about telling the story of where the town was, and why it had changed so completely from a sleepy hamlet established in 1713, to a thriving business environment hosting over 10 million visitors a year.

I contacted Upper Merion Township, where the town of King of Prussia is located, and suggested that we run a companion show to their very successful series, “Remember When”, on the Government Access channel.  We would call it “Remember Where”, and through the use of old photographs and on-location shots, we could tell the story of where our town was, and why it changed so dramatically.  When my idea was rejected, I set out to try to tell the story that needed to be told, but this time on paper.

Here then, is the story of a location so ideal that it was quickly and completely swallowed up by the very force it spawned…PROGRESS!  I have drawn upon the area known as greater King of Prussia for this book, using the unofficial name of the boundaries of the Municipality of Upper Merion Township.
