An Interview with J. Michael Morrison, the Author of King of Prussia, Then and Now

What was your inspiration for writing the book?
I attempted to do a TV Series entitled “Remember Where” on our local cable access channel.  After that was turned down, I realized that the only way to keep the memories of the past alive was in book form.  After the success of my first book “King of Prussia” in the Images of America series, I decided to contact Arcadia for another chance to capture the memories that were King of Prussia.

How did you research the information for the book?
Much of the information was gathered but not used while doing the first book.  But this book had its own unique challenges.  Photographing places that have disappeared can be a challenge.  The time of year, the foliage, and the traffic were all obstacles to overcome.

What will readers find interesting about the book?
Readers will find that King of Prussia has changed completely from its beginnings. Often described as resembling an English Hamlet, King of Prussia has grown to host over 10 million visitors a year at arguably the largest shopping mall (based on retail footage) in the world.

What writing advice would you give to aspiring authors and historians?
Don’t be afraid!  Putting your first words to paper are the most difficult.  If you have a story, there is someone interested in reading it.

What lasting impact do you hope your book will leave?
I hope my book will help keep the past alive in all of us.
