The famous Peacock Gardens, located just south of the King of Prussia Antique Shop (formerly Pizzaria Uno and most recently Kildare's Irish Pub), was said to have been located "at the junciton of Routes 202, 23, Valley Forge Express Highway and the Pennsylvania Turnpike". Famous for fine dining and dancing on the terrace, it was in operation until the mid-70's.

The George Washington Motor Lodge was located just south of King of Prussia, where the Home Depot now stands. This was a modern 300 room air conditioned facility, with telephones, TV and HiFi, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a cocktail lounge.

When the original King of Prussia Plaza was built in the early 60's, the Harvest House was one of the first.

The Horn and Hardart Restaurant was a spin-off of the famous Automats located throughout the Delaware Valley and New York. This one was built in the early 60's and was located just south of King of Prussia where the Home Depot now stands. The Continental Room was a state of the art banquet facility.

Here are two views of the old General Lafayette Motel. A Motel 6 stands in its place today, just south of the intersection of Route 202 and Gulph Road. In its day, the General Lafayette offered 100 "modern units" with free TV, air-conditioning, room telephones, and even continental breakfast. I used to work at the Mobil gas station next door (now a Dunkin Donuts), and we would sneak into that pool for a quick dip after work.
